Polar bear cub Schleich Wild Life 14708
The polar bear and the grizzly bear are the largest predators on Earth. The polar bear, weighing over 500 kilograms and measuring up to 3 meters long, is twice the size of a Siberian tiger. The polar bear has a thick layer of fat that enables it to withstand the extreme Arctic cold. It also has an undercoat and a protective layer of transparent fur, which allows it to hunt and swim in very low temperatures. The polar bear is an excellent swimmer and has been seen up to 300 kilometers away from the coast. When searching for food, the polar bear benefits from a highly sensitive sense of smell. It can detect scents that are over 1.5 kilometers away or buried under a meter of snow! The polar bears hearing and vision can be compared to that of humans. Polar bears live alone but do not have a defined territory and enjoy playing with each other. Mating occurs in May, and during the gestation period, the female polar bears weight almost triples.
