Herrerasaurus Schleich Dinosaurs 14576
Herrerasaurus was one of the first prehistoric reptiles that dominated the Earth 220 million years ago. It was a dangerous hunter that moved on two legs and had sharp, serrated teeth. Herrerasaurus could retract its claws on its forelimbs, similar to a bird.
Compared to the much later Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus, Herrerasaurus was relatively small. It was only three to four meters long. However, its legs were very strong, and it could sprint at a speed similar to a 100-meter runner. For a dinosaur, Herrerasaurus had a rather unusual lower jaw that could slide back and forth with the help of a flexible joint. This allowed it to better grasp its prey. It was named after the Argentine shepherd Victorino Herrera, who came across its skeleton in 1959.
